Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On first start of the day (cold start) I get a fuel odor in vehicle, It seems to ruch as sometimes blak smoke will come out the exhust pipe. After about 5 min all is clear. vehicle runs even while all this happens. I don't believe it is valve guides: one you would have blue smoke, not black. Two it doesn't happen on every cold start, or even after vehicle sits for a short while giveing time for oil to drip into cyoinder. It is only fuel related

I think your fuel pressure regulator is faulty- this diagnosis is completely un-tested---but it's a start~

Check the regulator. Look for fuel stains and look for gas in the vacuum hose.

there might be a spaghetti of leaking vacuum ole' butyl rubber which degrades and leaks. I recommend silicone vacuum hoses (from summit racing and other places too) this way they will not leak..in my experience as a mechanic, we'd sometimes scam the silicone hoses replacing them with butyl from unwitting Berkeley customers because BMW uses them~

after 5 minutes all clear, has to be a rich mix. ,otherwise, will stay that way
