My rav4 2020 pulls left/right when cruise control and LSA are engaged?

Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) has two other sub functions: Steering Assist and Lane Centering Function. Steering Assist can be on regardless if Cruise Control active or not. Lane Centering Function only works when DR Cruise Control on. I turned my Lane Center function off due to the same symptom described, It kind of hunts to the left and right and is annoying. Refer to Manual page 257 for LTA and 261 for Lane Center. Page 264 tell how to disable.

I have the SAME issue. I just bough brand new 2020 Rav4 Hybrid 5 days ago. Already I have to take it in for service. No fun seeing this as a common issue. Guess I better have them check the fuel tank too while I am there. Super disappointing for a $35,000 purchase.
Yikes! This is quite concerning, I have had my 2020 xle prem for 2 days. I was alarmed by how hard it pulled to left with lta and cruise on, even on straight section of freeway. Pulled me over lane markers until i turned cruise off. Going in for "re-calibration" next week, apparently lengthy fix as I was told I will require loaner. You are right about spending over 30,000 for a great vehicle with this common problem. What is the problem with the gas tank?
They recalibrated mine too which took 3 days. It’s better but not great. It still pulls to the left. The service manager told me that there is a bladder bag in the gas tank. And just like the tires change with temperature so does the bladder bag. So if it’s cold the bag compresses and will not allow for a full fill. That pissed me off that they are aware of the issues but don’t disclose to the consumer. I spoke with the owner of the dealership about it. He asked me to drive the mileage down to 5 miles before I fueled up again to see what happened. If I couldn’t get 14 gallons then he’d look into it for me. I live in a rural area where I can’t do that. I drove down to 30 miles. I was only able to get 12.5 gallons. And that was after forcing more fuel after the pump was kicking off. My calculations are that I should be able to get 40 miles per gallon so I should have been able to fill 13 gallons. So it was close. However the temperature was 68 degrees and I had driven the car about 15 miles before filling. I’m concerned about how it will be effected in the winter. Long and short of it is that there is absolutely a known issue with the fuel tank that Toyota isn’t disclosing to the consumer. I am getting an average of 50mpg though so I’m not going to Pursue it any further at this moment

Update to cruise control - problem returned and again almost caused me to wreck again. Stapp Toyota has had my vehicle for over 14 days. They state Toyota engineers do not know how to fix the problem. My NEW car has 1,000 miles on it. The dealer has had possession of my car over 33% of the time since I’ve owned it. I’ve already made my first payment. And my registration is due in 6 days. I asked for a new vehicle since it is clear they don’t know how to fix it. Dealer refuses even thought this is the second time I’ve returned for the exact same issue. I’m disappointed in this dealership and I am going to seek legal counsel if my vehicle isn’t repaired and returned to me by Friday.
I have just under 3000 miles and today developed same problem with cruise control
Had same issue with our 2020 RAV4 Hybrid. Dealer worked with Toyota field engineer who identified tech tip TT-T-0616-20, which the dealer performed. The service record says that they "PERFORMED ZERO POINT CALIBRATION OF STEERING ANGLE SENSOR". Since the work, we have had no issues with lane centering.
I just got a 2019 RAV XLE that has the same steering issue when lane departure and cruise are on. It pulls to the left and then back to the right, almost undriveable.
Ours was “intermittent” in that it would sometimes work. If it was working and you stopped the car, say for gas or a rest stop, it might work or it might not work the next time you started the car ( flip a coin). When it was not working, it would not work until you stopped the car, in which case the next time it might or might not work (flip a coin). At a minimum it required a full ignition cycle to initiate or clear the lane centering issue. Oh, and ours would sometimes pull right and other times pull left. When it was malfunctioning, you could see the lane assist icon cycle between green and white, and it would pull strongly while green and then relax while white. When pulling, if you did not resist it, it would cross out of the lane (setting off the lane departure warning). The only thing that you could do short of stopping the car and trying again would be to turn of the whole lane assist system or sequence through the menus and turn off lane centering. After almost three weeks with the dealer, they solved the problem per the tech tip described previously. Been driving for a month with no issues. Get thee to the dealer and mention the tech tip TT-T- 0616-20 above. And make sure they understand that it require the cruise control be engaged, as the service department may not understand the Lane Centering only is in effect at that time. At a minimum this is a distraction than can lead to serious consequences. And let us know how things turn out.
Not a happy camper just bought 2020 rav 4 xle fwd First day off the lot I noticed steering fighting me and wanting to correct. I had not crossed any lines in the road. Took it to dealership, there was a fuse missing. He replaced it and it worked fine on the ride home. Heading to work on freeway next day the steering became unstable as if in a speed wobble. I'm feeling a bit un safe!
Me too!! How come I can’t find any research of this matter on any other website except for here??

I turned off the lane departure stuff and may 2020 rav 4 is working fine now. With cruise on it was jumping back and fourth at the centre of the lane. Now it’s working fine. Honestly, how useful is the lane departure stuff anyway?
Same issue here 2020 RAV4 LE, this issue is so dangerous, i turned down sensitivity to the minimum like suggested by the dealer, no luck ... thats a -1 for toyota.

Argh. Just searching and found this page after I have had this exact issue with my brand new 2021 Rav 4! At dealer now on the second day I’ve ever driven it!? Told there is a fix, but they are looking into it. Never told this was an ‘identified issue’ until I mentioned it to the technician while turning my Rav 4 in for the body side molding installation. Thought Toyota was supposed to be ‘The Toyota Way’ and error proofing, and eliminating errors, etc....hope this gets resolved?!

yes this is in fact a very scary issue, my fav4 simply doesn't follow the lane center once it is turn on in cruise mode. Toyota did balance and wheel rotation, it doesn't work at all. it is definitely the software issue they haven't figure out what the glitch is.

Having the same steering issues as others mentioned with my 21 rav4 hybrid AWD. At first it just pulled to the right at higher speeds like 60mph+ but now it's all over the place, I had to cross over 3 lanes on the freeway to slow down and gain control of the car. Scared the snot out of me! Going to the dealer tomorrow! I noticed the issue when I drove it home from the dealership, and hour and half drive mostly freeway. I called the salesmen the next day to report the issue and said it was impossible because it just passed it's 100 point inspection and was test driven after delivery. I bought it within 24 hours of delivery, and I am damn sure they did not drive it for an hour at high speeds on the freeway, they just took it off the truck, checked all the boxes and collected their $34K! Drives well at low speeds and it easy to park despite the front end being like a large truck and you can't see over the hood and around the fenders. I could use a front end camera more than the back up one!
I have the same issue only it is intermittent and therefore hard to troubleshoot. I have been to 2 different dealerships. One said to turn the Lane Centering off. That worked except why did I pay for Lane Centering if I can't use it? The second said they needed to see the problem and the RAV worked fine on the test drive. The Tech said he had never heard of the problem before and Toyota is good about send updates. I headed home (45 miles) and it started to act up again. I turned around and went back to the dealer as they requested. I waited over 2 hours and never got a Tech to ride go for a test drive. They wanted to "schedule" for next week but the problem only shows up when it wants to, not on a schedule. So it seems futile to go back. I bought the car for my wife to try to keep her safer with the latest technological safety features. This car will kill her.
As Mark pointed out earlier, LTA (Lane Track Assist) has two features - Steering Assist and Lane Centering. On the main display, you can arrow right to the settings (cogged wheel) screen and LTA should be the first option. If you press and hold the "OK" button, it allows you to turn certain features on or off and also set sensitivity. I found that increasing the sensitivity actually improved lane centering. Still, the constant (even fairly gently) tugging left then right creates a side to side rocking that makes us feel a bit seasick after a bit. (Travelling 70mph on I-64). We ended up turning off Lane Centering, but the Steering Assist still works well. I called Toyota and was referred back to the dealership. A Tech at Toyota Customer Service said Lane Centering combines the Steering Assist feature and the Dynamic Cruise Control to keep the car centered in the lane. If cruise control isn't detecting a car in the lane in front of you, lane centering is less accurate and is more likely to sway. The only tech notice out from Toyota is a noted problem about some vehicles needing to have their steering centered (calibrated) - and this is from the Steering Assist being aimed wrong (tends to go left, even changing lanes). If your RAV4 is doing this, there is a known fix for it. But as of now, enough people have to take their RAV4s to the dealership and get the tech to experience the same side-to-side pulling so they can report it to Toyota. There has to be enough of these reports from dealerships sent in to Toyota before they will take a look at fixing it. (Verified by both Toyota Customer Service and the dealership). Still, in the meantime, try increasing your LTA sensitivity. If that doesn't work, then turn off Lane Centering for now.

Calibration itself takes 15 minutes max! Maybe an hour if they don't have the test location measured out already. Three days is shear laziness.
Before going to the dealer and all that, try disconnecting your battery for 30 seconds. That fixed it for me. This is a very dangerous malfunction. My RAV4 legit tried to steer me into traffic and off the road.

Hello all. I have a 2022 rav4 XLE hybrid, and have been experiencing these issues since I drove the car off the lot. I have been experiencing a misaligned vehicle with no lane tracking assists enabled, namely a steady pull to the right and a misaligned steering wheel. With the LTA (both features) enabled, the car dashes to the right lane marker, then zigs back and crosses the left lane marking while audibly notifying of a lane crossing and failing to make a correction back into the lane. I have been to the dealer several times and they were telling me the same things I have been reading here from other posts; "the crown of the road effects the path", "that's how the car is" , "I've been doing this for X years and this is normal behavior", etc. I even took the car out with the service manager, and he begrudingly agreed the car was indeed pulling to the right. They told me to test out swapping the tires to see if the tires were defect, still the issue persists. I went back after the tire swap, and it was like I had never been there before, and was given the run around again and no help or effort to help, even with a full warranty. I am in contact with coprporate for a second time trying to get my vehicle repaired or replaced. I have a Honda CRV that I drive on the exact same roads, and that vehicle drives straight ahead with no issues with the lane assists enabled, so the whole story of the road, crown, etc is a bunch of hog wash.
