2003 Olds Alero 3.4L won't start after changing Fuel Pump & Fuel Filter

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Olds Alero 3.4L won't start after I changed the fuel pump & filter unless I
pour a little gas in the throttle body port. Runs fine until I shut it off for a while
then I have to ad gas to start, don't know why. I'm assuming it has to do with the
car's security system, that's just how I'm feeling it....

If it runs after you prime it with gasoline it's not the security system. If the security system was involved it wouldn't run at all. Sounds like the fuel system is losing pressure when it sits. Try this, turn the ignition to the run position but don't try to start it. Listen for the fuel pump. It should run a few seconds. Now, turn off the ignition and then immediately try to start the engine. If it fires right up, the fuel system is losing pressure. There's a check valve in the fuel system that is supposed to prevent the fuel system from losing pressure. On some GMs it's part of the fuel pump assembly but on others it's inline somewhere in the fuel system. Hope that helps! Jim

It’s the #37 fuse for the AC BFC under the hood. Your AC compressor has a short causing the amp to blow. Causes a no start scenario. Check this out. Replace the fuse, either with a new one or a 10 amp MINI circuit breaker. If you don’t get a circuit breaker unplug your ac compressor or fix it. Thank me later.

To clarify quickly replace #37 fuse with red 10 amp and crank up. Remember, It will blow again leaving you stranded. I kept like 15 10 amp fuses in the glove box until I finally found a 10 amp mini circuit breaker at NAPA. I eventually fixed my ac system which allowed me to put a regular fuse in. It is still odd the AC BFC fuse causes a no start. This has to be factory mislabeling on fuse panel or it is on the same circuit as the ignition.

The AC Fuse & Relay is good and ac runs good & cold while running. Replaced Fuel Pressure Regulator but still won't start on its own, still have to ad gas between MAF Sensor & Throttle body in EVAP Port, then will start fine and run as it should. The ONLY problem comes at start-up no other problem. Wondering if there is fuel check valve in this Model, it may be the problem. Don't know where's it at at present? still hunting for it.

The check valve on this model is incorporated into the fuel pump itself. However, a few basic start up “stoppers” would be: Bad MAF or bad MAP

I had same problem i replaced the fuel regulator, checked fuel pressure, mine would start and run fine with a little starting fluid. But the next day or a few hours would not start. same thing again with the starting fluid. Then I read this artical about the 10amp fuse, so i look at fuse and it was blown. I replaced fuse and the car fired right up. Now trying to find out why fuse keeps blowing. I know its tied into air conditioner compressor somehow. I will keep looking to see what blows the fuse. I did run defroster the other day and the fuse blew. by not running air conditioner or defroster the fuse does not blow. can drive car all month. strange but still looking for short. 2003 alero
