What is stopping my fans from working when my motor gets hot

Asked by Clyde Dec 03, 2024 at 09:58 PM about the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero GL Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Oldsmobile alero is running hot after 15-20 the fans run
sometimes but at a low speed I have new temp sensor,
radiator, thermostat but still runs hot to the point that the
throttle body gets so hot that the fuel evaporates and the
car shut down till it cools then I have to put starter good in
it. Please help me find the solution.

I don't think you should put any more money into that thing , You need a mechanic and that'll cost even more money ,

In the underhood fuse box you have three radiator cooling fan relays. One for each fan for low speed. The third is for both fans for high speed. To test the high speed fan relay unplug the coolant temperature sensor (engine off and cold). Then start the engine. The check engine light will come on, ignore it. The radiator cooling fans should come on immediately at high speed. You may also have air trapped in the cooling system. GMs of that period were notorious for that. Jim
