Serpentine belt

Asked by GuruBRLB3 Jan 15, 2019 at 05:21 PM about the 2004 Pontiac Vibe Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Pontiac Vibe. I was told I don’t have a serpentine belt but a
chain. My manual doesn’t tell me anything about a serpentine belt. How do I
know what I have?

Yours is likely to be a serpentine belt (a rubber belt that winds around all of the engine accessories like AC , power steering, water pump, etc). Doubtful that your Vibe uses a chain but you can tell by looking at it. Locate the belt on the side of the engine with the accessories and look at it. Does it have links like a bicycle chain or is it a flat rubber belt?
