Pontiac Aztek: Hello I have a 2001 Pontiac Aztek, My head gaskets recently just went out,
I was wondering if I need a new (used) engine to replace this? Two my All wheel drive
says its disabled? How do I get that fixed and where can I get the right part at? Three how
do I fix a gas gauge (after I have under a half a tank it reads my gas inaccurately) How do

Theoretically you can just fix the head gasket but my experience after doing that was that it just happened again. After putting in a rebuilt junkyard engine I put 100,000 miles on it with no further issues. That was with a 2003 you may have a Dexcool problem with the 2001. I think you can read online about the antifreeze destroying head gaskets. I haven't had a awd car but I did have problems with it turning the abs off. Turns out there is a problem with shorts in the wiring harness (about a $50 part). Replacing it solved my problem. You probably should be proactive and do both sides. Do not let your mechanic tell you it is the hub (a $250 job) without trying the harness first. I will warn you that may be a tough sell but it also could have been I had trouble because I am female.Ca n't help you with the gas gauge other than suggesting resetting the odometer every fill up and using the DIC to tell you your mpg. I am on my 4th Aztek in 17 years. I love them but I've learned a lot about their quirks. I just searched high and low to find my 4th one and, if I were you, I'd try to find an '05! I think most of the problems were ironed out by then. I put 235,000 on my last '05 without a problem. Hope this helps!\
