Noise when accelerating

2000 Pontiac Bonneville w/250k miles.
makes a sort of whirring noise when
accelerating.  It kind of sounds like a
something spinning or grinding hum and i
can feel it when driving.  It gets faster as i
accelerate and slows when decelerating.  
Sounds like it's coming from the engine or
possibly passenger side?  Drivers side front
axel broke completely off and it's been
replaced but continued to make the same
popping/cracking/creaking noise.  Any help
would be greatly appreciated!!  Thank you

Take a close listen at the AC compressor, alternator, and power steering pump. They all spin with the speed of the engine via a belt. Maybe a bearing in one of them or the belt itself is causing the noise. Sorry, I can't help with your axel issue but I would take it back to the shop that did the work.

Thank you so much for responding. I'll have those things you mentioned checked out....it makes sense and the noise sounds like its coming from kind of the front center part of engine. my boyfriend seems to think its the trans axle where it goes into the transmission??? My transmission has been slipping, actually it sometimes get stuck in first gear and i have to let off the gas for it to shift into second gear. He also would like to know what is used to lubricate that bearing at the trans axle & tranny... transmission fluid or some type of oil??? Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated

I replaced my transmission. Now I hear a gurgling noise on accelaration...I am guessing the water pump but could use some feed back.
