I have a 1999 Porsche Boxster engine light came on when a truck passed by me splashing a lot of water and waves. What would make you go on?

Sounds like maybe the oxygen sensors or coil packs may have been submerged temporarily, they are about the lowest connections on the car outside of the brake sensors. Light may have to be reset to clear it.

You may have gotten water in the side air intake, which could also cause this. Ive heard you have to be careful when washing the car as to not get to much water in there.
