Dead battery and can't open hood

Open drivers door...in the foot well where your left foot would be is a removable fuse panel cover. Remove it, and read the instructions, which tell you to pull out the "dummy fuse" which is a + terminal, attach a + jump to it, and a - jump to the door stop... You should then have power for the hood switch, to get to the battery.
I thought the 98 car used a cable operated trunk mechanism? Do you have a lever type or electrical switch type trunk mechanism? It that's the case, you need to try the emergency cable release in the front passenger wheel well. You need to pull the plastic liner out then look for the cable release, its normally near the back of the headlight. You can also buy a cheap battery tender thing that plugs into the cigarette lighter that should give you additional power to open the trunk
I put voltage at the fuse panel, got the dashboard illuminated, fan working but the hood and the trunk levers would not work. Is there some lock? Tried with the switch on, hand break on...nothing.
You have the cable operated mechanisms, it does not use electricity to open the trunk. The problem is likely something else, either cable or latch mech. Try the emergency cable I mentioned in my last post.
Great topic I have just picked up a 98 Boxster electric hood and trunk latches with a dead battery. I cannot get to the wheel tools to remove the wheel so I can try the cable idea because the tools are where else with the tire under the hood. I am trying to use the fuse box by jumping the fuse with an alternative power source. I have gotten he trunk open by doing this and using the latch release or the key button but the hood latch will not release the hood. My question is id there a separate fuse for the hood if so which one is it. The trunk is C-3 , 3 across and 3 down 15 amp I think, this works great for the trunk but I cannot get the hood to release so I'm thinking it must ne a different fuse ???????????? which one the owners manual is no help on this.
Last Post to get to cable? OK? which is last post? I see lots of different posts but not in date posted order. thanks.
tried hooking up to the fuse panel and the dash comes on but the horn honks and the hood still won't open. The cable for the manual override is gone.
