HELP!! My 1995 ford explorer was driving 30mph, died & will not crank over now
My daughter was driving my 1995 explorer sport xl 2dr 4wd automatic 4.0, home from work doing 30 mph and the truck just died on her. She had help pushing it to the shoulder until I got a tow truck to tow it home. Battery is new and was fine when we tried to turn it over. It sounds like the starter is just spinning when you turn the key over. We pulled the starter, tested it, working properly. Reinstalled starter, same outcome... Pulled it 3rd time and looked further into drivetrain. The flywheel seems to spin freely when you spin it, which explains the sound of the starter. Now, I need to know how fix it. did the teeth shear off? Did the bolts shear off? Bolts backed out? How do I check these things? Any idea of cost of parts & tool rental to do this at home vs a service center?
