Is this a good car?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

So, I am 16 years old, as I said in my forum about a Pontiac Bonneville, and I am going to be buying a car soon. Could anyone please tell me if a 1996 Saab 900S 5-speed w/ 149K miles for 2K would be a good first good car. Thanks.

First of all, have it checked by a professional mechanic. If that car is in good condition it will last forever without any serious problems or expensive maintenance. I have a 1995 Saab and it is in great shape. It is an extremely comfortable car and the interior is a great place to be in. If it isn't a Turbo (which I imagine it isn't) the performance won't really blow your mind but it's okay. Visibility of the front and back bumper isn't that good so you have to be careful, particularly if you're not that experienced as a driver. That's all I can think of right now, so just ask anything else you're interested in.

Yes! This car is a great choice compared to the Pontiac Bonneville. I Have a Saab 9000 cse turbo 5spd ,and the is car is a blast to drive, # 1 your car is four cylinder which would make it easy to work on. My friend you have a very solid car that is capable of doing 400,000 miles. Good luck.

I personally have a 1995 Saab 900 and it is an excellent car. I'd argue one of the best cars you can get for under 3,000 dollars. Definitely bring it to a mechanic and get an estimate on any possible work that needs to be done and use it to negotiate the price with the owner/dealer. Good point with the 4 cylinders being easy to work on, mine is a six cylinder and the back 3 cylinders need an hour of removing things to get to. I personally haven't driven a 4 cylinder or turbo Saab, but I hear they're pretty reliable, thumbs up with the 5 spd.

I've had a '97 SAAB 900 SE Turbo since 2006. bought it w/ 56,000. now have 105,000. only had to replace a clutch cable, alternator belt, and some heater hoses. yes, a nice car, fun to drive, economical, sporty, and dependable

Too many electrical issues.....neutral safety switch.......clutch safety switch........lights go out in dash......don't do it. Buy a Mercedes or BMW of the same age, check for issues on those cars
