Well, it sounds like a transmission failure. How many miles on on this vehicle?
Can you just hear the engine rev up?

yes, but it isnt revving high, it sounds like something is no longer taking the fuel to the engine or where ever it goes next. Sorry thats the best I can do. I was told I might have an emissions problem?
calypsomaiden- so, when you put the car in "drive", you can accelerate to what speed exactly, you do feel the car engage in gear, correct?

The car is engaging no problem, drive, reverse... it only goes forward based on how high the engine was set to rev. It does not feel like the engine is getting any additional gas from my acceleration. I dont believe it is a transmission issue. thanking you for your help MarkW. What ever you might suggest. I just dont want to pay an arm and leg. The previous owner said that fuses under the motor head might need changing and that is where the cost may come in? I have been driving it for 7 months. The only issue I normally have is when it gets between 40-50 it has a tendency to not accept the gas, so I push harder down on accelerator and it seems to push past it. This is not the case as I sit from park to drive now.
You've had this car a while? Or just acquired it? When was it last serviced?
