If my timing belt breaks while driving, will it bend the valves?

Dodge Stratus year 2000. Timing belt broke while driving. Are the valves likely to have
been bent, or are they recessed enough to avoid damage?

It depends on how fast the engine was going and luck, At this point your only option is to replace the belt and try to start the car. Good luck

If you have the 2.4 DOHC engine it is not an interference engine and the valves will not be bent. You are very lucky. Replace the belt, tensioner and water pump if it is accessible while doing the timing belt.

Thank you Bob, I live in Mexico, and good factory mechanics are sparce. My mechanic was convinced the valves were bent, until I sugessted changing the belt and doing a compression test. All checked good! Lucky is right!

Most of the time the valves will be bent as most small engines now are of the interference type. You got lucky. I wish you the best of luck with it.

I have 97 dodge stratus it won't start everything checks out timing was replaced

Fuses are good fuel pressure good. My self diagnoses code are 12 55 yes I was driving it my water pump is bad like leaks . It died so I did what I could to get back on the road to save cash to buy water pump. Iv cleaned all sensors. I'm out of things to find

2004 dodge stratus 2.4 ran out and it jump timing think i can just change the timing
