it sounds like the engine is having trouble getting gas. I'm had the same trouble with my 86 fiero. Check over fuel injectors to make sure they are running right. Change the fuel filter and check the condition of your spark plugs and wires. Perhaps run a can of seafoam through it. If that doesn't fix it, you may have to replace the fuel pump, or the fuel injectors. As far as the tick goes, start the car and go under the hood. press the throttle, and see if the tick gets louder or not. It will get a little louder no matter what, but shouldn't get loud to the point where it turns into a knock. With older vehicles, the lifters will start to tick after a while, this is normal. The tick will get more noticeable if the oil gets low, so make sure your full on oil. If the tick gets really loud, you may have a valve knock, in which case could be fatal if not checked.
