sounds to me like your linkage is stuck while the truck is off does it shift easier or just the same ? cause i would try going under it and manually push the shifter (while the parking brake is one) to see if it is easy or hard as it may just be getting stuck release all would fix it. its happened on a couple gm cars for my uncle that i know of.
