I don't think slim jims work anymore. Can you remove the door panel with the door shut?

Something inside the door must have let loose or your latch mechanism has broken. Lift the door handle on the outside while pushing with your knee against the door and pull upwards. If that doesn't work, you have two choices. Either cut the door panel off with a thin grinder wheel to access the linkage, or you will have to do what they have done in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF4cwutEE7Q It depends if you have a linkage problem or a failed latch mechanism. If you do the fix in the video, you will at least save the door panel and the door will still open. Either way, your in for some real fun. Good luck!

June 2018, 3rd door worked on one day and not the next , no warning. Read a lot of blogs and suggestions and was able with patience to get it operating.... 4 hours.... lol. Top latch seemed ok but bottom was closed tight. took off arm rest and pulled out door plastic well. Note bottom of door is rusted out so I could shine a light and see up but to no avail. Hard to see but latch rods and bottom lever all operating. Sprayed PB Blaster down into openings around bottom lock until it was dripping out. Waited, tried door, waited , tried door, repeat for over an hour, got rough with door by holding handle open and pulled until it started to move then worked it until it opened. Took off inside panel and seat belt assembly then unscrewed latch assembly , Again sprayed the rusted latch and worked it until it was free - not easy but with patience it came free. Reassembled and it works well , no new parts, a few cuts on hands but still have my religion in tact and a working door. Hope you have good luck also.

Both rear doors on my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 would stick or would not open. I was able to open the passenger side and found the lower latch mechanism was froze. Sprayed with a penetrant and kept working the latch assembly open and close and got it to work OK. Still working on the drivers side, Lots of rust as the vehicle has over 300,000 miles. Lower latch assembly needs frequent lubing. Wish me luck on the drivers side.
