71 vw super beetle sometimes wont take gas boggs.

HMMMMMMM...THIS IS A GOOD ONE. COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS...TO START WITH...FUEL PROBLEM..CARB ADJUSTMENT POSSIBLY...ALSO, THERE IS A LITTLE GIZMO JUST BELOW THE CARB WITH A WIRE TO IT...THIS IS A LITTLE VALVE THAT CLOSES WHEN YOU TURN OFF THE IGNITION TO KEEP GAS FROM FLOWING INTO THE CARB...MAYBE..MAYBE THIS VALVE IS STUCK OR SCREWEDUP..GET A PERSON WITH HEARING ABILITY TO SIT BACK NEAR THIS VALVE...TURN THE IGNITION ON AND SEE IF HE CAN FEEL OR HEAR THIS LITTLE VAVLE CLICK...IF SO, THEN CHANCES ARE THIS IS OK AND YOU HAVE TO KEEP LOOKING...I'M AT A LOSS OTHERWISE...COULD BE TIMING ALSO, NEED TO CHECK THAT...GOOD LUCK....JZBUG

ok. here are some things to check. first you say you hear a buzzing sound? are you standing at the engine, or can you hear it from the drivers seat? if you are standing at the motor, is it a buzz or more of a boiling water sound? if it's a boiling sound, pull the air cleaner off and look down the carb. if when you pull the cleaner you see a fog come out of the carb, or when you look into the carb you see gas vapor (or gas dripping) it's most likely vapor locking on you. in this case, follow your gas lines all the way till they go into the pan of the car and make sure they are away from any heat source. if the gas lines are next to the exhaust, or intake they will collect heat from these parts and vaporize the gas inside the line. the vapor will not flow and your car will basically run like it's out of gas. once the line cools down, the vapor will turn back into liquid and everything will go back to normal. another thing to check would be the ignition system. how are the points? when they wear down it will change the gap in the points and actually change the ignition timing on the car. it will change enough to make the car hard to start (or not start at all) make one bogg, pop, sputter, all kinds of things.

thanks, i had a new fuel pump & idle cut off switch on the carb i thought i had it fixed ran fine a day but this afternoon it started boggin & bucking almost like it was misfiring while it is bogging if you press on the gas i hear a noise and it bucks worse ease out of the gas smoothes out but dies and lights on the dash come on will not idle. starts back up but sounds like there is not enough fire to burn the gas. once it cools down runs fine idles fine but when it gets hot does it again. maybe bad coil , condenser, ??

Definitely a bad ignition coil. to check when it bogs down check the coil, if its super hot then definitely its the coil. I use to wrap it with a wet cloth to cool it down just to get me home. sometimes with ice in rag if available. when it stop again just wet the rag once again and it will start.
