Any idea why my car won’t start after cleaning the engine?

Asked by WuzHiz71 Apr 08, 2020 at 04:38 PM about the 1993 Honda Accord

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son cleaned the engine on my car and
now it won’t run. Is it possible that water
could’ve gotten down in something to cause
it to not run? All of the hoses are still
connected so I don’t think he knocked
anything loose

Exactly, the ignition system is wet. Remove the distributor cap and dry the inside of it. Plus the components on the distributor that sit under the cap. Dry the spark plug wires and see if it will start then. If you can get it started the heat from the engine will dry everything else out. Take it for a drive too. The air moving through the engine compartment will help dry everything out as well. If the check engine light is now on, ignore it. It will go out once everything is dry. My 2000 Grand Prix throws a trouble code for the EGR valve whenever I clean it's engine. Hope that helps! Jim
