dead battery

Your Mazda has DRL, daytime running lights, that will turn on whenever car is running, and off when you shut car off. I am unaware that Maxda has a feature that will turn the lights off if you have them on manually at the switch, but please correct me if I am wrong.
https://www.mymazda.com/MusaWeb/pdf/manuals/2014_MAZDA3_O M.pdf -I stand corrected. They DO shut off when car is turned off, but on Chapter 9 Page 12 this can pe personalized, from 0 seconds to not at all turn off. Make sure you have them set to go off, meantime if you already do, and the battery still drains overnight your 2014 should still be under warranty

I have a 2013 and I am now on my 4th battery and it has been in the shop 6 times for the same issue. i drive 5,000 miles a year and Mazda's response is to either hook up the car to a trickle charger every night or pull the fuse on the computer every night so there is no drain... What a great solution
Vandura_3644, it seems we have the same issues here. Dealership just replaced the battery for 200 bucks. What a scam.
I own a 2013 Mazda 3, Within three years killed two and almost the third battery. The first battery was under warranty but of course, that one was prorated. The second battery replaced free of charge. Now I'm on my third battery and Mazda dealership nor Les Shuab Could diagnose the issue. I believe the problem was the result of me leaving the key fob in my car after all my car was secured in my locked garage. After some research, I discovered the key was constantly searching for command and drawing power from my battery. My car would stay parked for several days at a time not recharging the battery until finally, they wore out. My third battery has outlasted the first two by three years. I hope my experience helps you as it did me.
I realize I'm late to the party here, but am having the same issue with our 2013 Mazda 3 Sport. The dealer gave us the same trickle charger option, which is completely unacceptable to me. I just don't buy the theory that the car isn't being driven fare enough to recover the charge lost to starting. The average drive is about 7km (5miles), which should be more than enough. If that's truly an issue, perhaps they should be looking at a more efficient starter, with a lower draw. The Mazda is the first vehicle we've ever had a problem with. It may be time to shop for another brand going forward. The only source of draw we can find is the electronic corrosion protection module. But even then, we're told it's within factory specifications for parasitic draw. From my internet searches, this seems to be a common problem with low mileage Mazda 3's all the way back from about 2006 - 2013. So it's very disappointing that Mazda hasn't acknowledged it, and attempted to come up with a more practical solution.
I own a 2015 Mazda 3. It was purchased new from the dealer but in one year it began having a battery drain. One year after that it happened again. Now that the car is out-of-warrenty the problem is occurring again. Even though this has been a recurrent issue since I bought the car, Mazda service is indicating that they won't cover the repair for me. It has never been adequately addressed from the beginning other than replacing the battery. This car now has it's third battery but only 25000 miles. It's suspected that when the car is shut off, part of the electrical system does not go into sleep mode and drains the battery. Since the problem is randomly intermittent, no one can reproduce the issue and hence, the problem persists. The car is a money pit, and I'll never own another Mazda.
I own a 2018 Mazda 3 and am having the exact same issue. Two dead batteries within six months. At the dealership, they told me the first one was a fluke--and after they installed the next battery, they told me that we need to stop "short-tripping" (i.e., taking only short drives) because the battery wasn't able to charge. Well, we started taking longer drives, and sure enough, the battery has died again. I'll be heading into the dealership once more tomorrow for yet another battery. My warranty is up in November of this year...not looking forward to that....
I've got the same problem with my 9 month old Mazda 3, I sat talking to a friend for a couple hours with the car maybe unlocked 10 metres away. When I went to leave the battery was flat!! If just done a 30 minute motorway trip to get there and the car is used every day!! The Mazda assist man who came out told me you can't leave your Mazda unlocked for more than 30 minutes!! This is crazy!! He says the car continues to do readiness checks while unlocked which flattens the battery. I've been in touch with Mazda they didn't deny the battery goes flat when the car in unlocked just said it should go flat that quickly. They told me to turn the key off. I've tried this but I can still hear the car doing readiness checks. And yesterday it was locked in the drive the keys were in the house and it was still making whirring and clicking noises. It's rediculous, it means you can't leave it unlocked in your garage or sit in it for a picnic or to watch the sunset. This is my 3rd Mazda, the others were great cars, never again!!
I'm having the same problem with my 2018 Mazda 3 battery draining. Replaced the battery twice and had to buy a battery charger! The most unreliable car I've ever bought - and I'm about to trade it in for something more reliable.
I have a 2017 Mazda 3 and I am having a similar issue. I have owned the car for 2 1/2 years, and never had an issue. I worked full-time and drove about 50 miles/day, but then I started working from home in March, 2020 and by April the battery died on me. I had it jumped and would run it everyday to keep it going. Finally it died on me again and so I brought it in the dealership - they said my battery was very low/low health and replaced my battery. After spending $200, I thought I was in the clear. I would drive my car every 2-3 days to run local errands and thought nothing more of it. Until 3 weeks later my car died on me again. I had it jumped and brought it back to Mazda, who told me that the reason is because I don't drive it enough to recharge the battery. Apparently even though I drove the car every 2-3 days, I wasn't driving it long enough to recharge the battery in full, and therefore after 3 weeks of not being fully charged, the battery died. To be honest, I have never heard of this before, especially with a new battery. I asked the Mazda guy if this issue was specific to Mazda, and his response was that it would be an issue with any new car that has anything that is trying to connect to something remote such as a key, which drains the battery. I am not sure what to believe!

Lock the car with the remote every time you turn it off. Even if it’s in the garage. Haven’t had a problem ever since I started doing that. It took me 6 years, 8 batteries, 20 visits to the dealer, over 50 jumps to figure it out.

I have a 2013 Mazda 3 purchased used. Wasn’t a problem when driven every day, but now my son is off to college and the car sits here. I’ve been starting it every few days but have gone through one battery already. On this second battery, it happened again. I fully charged the battery and disconnected the positive lead. I’ll check the battery voltage over the week to note V drop, if any. If it’s not the battery, then Mazda’s suck. You wouldn’t be able to take a flight and drive home upon your return

Same story with a 2013 Mazda. It was a great car when I purchased it in 2016, until I retired in 2019. I drove less often, started to have issues and purchased a new battery in Fall of 2019. Then pandemic the lockdown occurred, I was getting my battery jumped every couple of weeks; now every few days. The Mazda dealer I purchased it from says that I need to buy some Gizmo to plug my battery in everday or drive it a minimum of 15 miles a day so the memory stays charged. Totally unacceptable! My question is; is this just the Mazda 3 doing this, or is it all Mazdas? Not that it matters to me, I have bought my 1st and last one!
My car is 2020 CX-5 Signature. Just bought it 6 months ago. The bettery is DEAD already. It has only 5000 km. That's why I will never buy another Mazda

I bought a 2019 Mazda 3. Only driven for 1 year. Same problem. I recently started working from home and battery died 3 times in last 2 months. The longest time I left it not driven was 4-5days. I talked to both the dealership and Mazda customer service but all they say is that I need to actually get out and drive my car more often in order to get my battery not drained. WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT RESPONSE IT THAT?? I have 3 different cars in my household, all of them at least 3 years old, never heard of a battery dying because it didn't get driven for few days. Never buying another Mazda. WORST CAR AND CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER.
I have a 2016 Mazda3 and the battery died 3 times. The 3rd time the dealer shared a great tip with me and I have yet to have the issue since!! He told me that the center console has 1 live port and if there is anything plugged in while the car is off and sitting, then the battery will slowly be drained. Since I travel a lot for work, my car will sit for 1-2 weeks and I was having the battery issue when I would leave my phone charger plugged in. Since changing my habit to unplugging the cords when I leave the car, I have no longer had any issues. It's definitely a design flaw and Mazda should fix the bug for sure, however, hopefully this helps some people who are having issues with their current vehicles!

i have a mazda 3 2litre automatc saloon registered september 2019 and have twice in the past year had the battery going dead without any warning lights alerting me to this problem only yesterday it had to be towed to the local mazda dealer and the same reasons have been given to me i.e.low milage use car standing for a few days and the key draining the battery although i keep it well away from the car as most of your answers confirm i have had no problems with my 2 mazda2 vehicles and do not readily accept the reasons i have been given it seems ludicrous that a well known car manufacture has such problems and i have a strong mind to change to another brand

Same here! I leased a 2015 Mazda 3 for my son. Shortly after buying the car we started having trouble with the battery until it got to the point where the car would not start periodically. We brought it to the dealership, they tested and said it was fine even though we told them this can't be possible. The next day my son got stuck. I bought a cheap $75 battery at Walmart and we never had another problem for the last 2 years of the lease. When we turned the car back in we put the old battery back in and kept the newer one for a back up. We now have a 2018 Mazda 3 and were having problems with the battery again. We 're going to the dealer this week to demand they put a new battery in. I believe this is not an isolated incident.

I have the same problem. Before pandemic, I was driving to work everyday, about 300 miles per week. Battery was perfect, in the "green zone" according to the dealership. Soon after I started working from home, and didn't drive as much. I noticed that every time I start the car it had some difficulties. Like it was starting slower than usual. Didn't pay much of attention. However, recently I started to drive even less, like 2 times a week, about 20 miles per week. And now car "almost" doesn't start. Lights and horn is working fine, but it takes a few times for me to start the car actually. I still need to get a new battery, and I am a little hesitant if it's battery and not a starter or something. However, it looks like it is a battery. If it is a Mazda issue, this is unacceptable. I shouldn't be forced to drive my car everyday. I could understand if it is not being drived for month, but a few days ??

it appears to be a a Mazda design problem. i have a 2018 Mazda 3 .I bought it new ?? with over 2000 k on it (demo?). The battery died in the first month. They replaced it free. No explanation. Battery died approximately one month later. It sits a lot. Nowhere to go due to pandemic,, recharged it, installed cheap battery monitor from Canadian Tire. Use it once a week for a day. no problems since. I live in southern Alberta.
I am having the same issue on my 2012 Mazda3 Skyactive. We bought one of those little solar panels that plug into the cigarette lighter. You just set it up on the dash when the car is parked. That should maintain the battery level when the car is parked, BUT and this is a big BUT, the radio turns on when it gets plugged in!!!! What the hell Mazda!?!?!
Then your feeding back power though the wrong way of the delayed exit module. Keep doing this and you could ruin the module and that can get expensive. I would hookup directly at the battery and make sure it is diode or fuse protected.

The solution is lock your car and trunk every time. The trunk light was not the solution nor the problem. I went through 6batteries before finding the solution. Same battery for 3 years now, and no issues.
sorry i was just suggesting that the light in the trunk can be left on there is a switch on it i hit it and now the batterieas dead and its -20 got the heat light out with a jumper pack but theres just not enough could be spiders lol guess they sent 2018s out that had spiders that are attracted to the smell of gas... what was killing your battery ?

Just an update on my Mazda 2019 and my battery keeps dying after not driven for 4-5 days. Remember how the customer service was like, "there's nothing wrong with the battery, you just have to drive it more often?" Well, turns out after few month they recalled my car and others from same year because the batteries had some issue. After they replaced the battery I never had any draining battery problem.
Just fyi ditch lead-acid batteries and go with a AGM (Absorptive Glass Matt) they can be completely run dead at -20 and they will still take charge and come back. Another tip if you have a impossible to find/fix drain one can pull the offending fuse and put a 433 Mhz remote control switch in it's spot and use a FOB to enable and disable the circuit at the time of driving.
Hello everyone in this topic. I know I am very very late to this party but still I feel I must contribute to bolstering the awareness of this unfortunate situation we all have had to encounter. I too have recently purchased a Mazda 3 skyactiv X 2.0 petrol manual transmission vehicle on the 17 oct 2023, the car could not start on the 15 nov 2023. The car would not respond to key fob. I thought the battery in the fob has failed. I got in the car manually with key. Tried to start the car. Nothing came on. Nothing to notify me of no key fob etc. I go check the battery and it had just over 4 volts. I drive the vehicle consecutively 5 days a week and had done so the day before the breakdown. Mazda warranty Rescue had to be called. They resolved the issue. however later the car alarm went off. I came out to stop it, however the car was complaining if could not find key fob but in a very urgent rapid way repeatedly over and over and over non stop. I tried to start the car by holding the key fob to the Start button thinking this should help confirm that the key fob is present. Yes I did press the clutch pedal down while doing this. The car continued to complain. Mazda Warranty had to be called again and this time I requested the vehicle be taken away to the dealership in where it was purchased. I thought about it for a few days and decided that a refund is in order as it was what I considered an exceedingly large sum of money I had used to purchase this car and for it to break down within 30 days of owning it is down right absurd. I dont think I am being unreasonable. It is most unfortunate this has happened to so many of us here. I wish you all have somehow resolved your versions of events in some way by now. and I wish you all who are reading this out of curiosity and research in buying your next car to NOT buy a MAZDA at all. Stay away no matter how good a offer it may be.
