Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was given a 850 estimate to replace broken timing belt. No guarantee that will fix my car....said if valves were damaged it will be 1200/ 1800 to take care of that problem....I just paid 2500 for the car and only drove it 13 days before belt broke! purchased from a small car lot...He is unwilling to reimburse or cover cost of repair

It would be a Big mistake to install a new belt without first verifying that the valves are not bent. Honestly I would recommend scrapping the car as the repair costs will far exceed the value of the car if the valves are bent. Bummer!

Thanks guys.... gonna have to choke down losing the 2500 dollars and new tires after less than a month....I haven't had a single person tell me to go ahead with repairs and that valves are pretty much guaranteed to be damaged...I cant afford to lose more money...Real bummer...

I am Mark, I am also making a claim against the dealer in Small Claims court...I believe he was aware that belt was past time for needing replacement . Has been in business a long time...He already told me he resells used cars he buys at auctions etc to the big large car dealers here in Sherwood and NLR for their used car inventory....I know he checks cars before he buys to resale....
