01m replacement

Asked by Njekwa Jun 04, 2018 at 12:11 PM about the 2001 Volkswagen Golf

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all,

I am currently looking to replace my geaebox in my
mk4, it is a 2ltr petrol automatic, with gearbox code
FDG. I haven't had luck in finding a gearbox with
this code. My question is, do I necessarily need to
replace it with the same gearbox code or can I use
one from any 2ltr petrol mk4?

Hi Njekwa. As far as I know, All the 2L Jetta, Golf and Beetle MK4s should fit and run. What I don't know is whether or not having a different FDG code will prompt an error code. Also, if you get a second hand replacement, if it hasn't already been done, change the fluid and filter, as this is a primary cause of failure. Good luck
