Hot defrost but cold vent air at same time

I just got a 1962 Dodge Dart.  I turned on the
push button heat button and it chopped up
dried brown leaves and spit them on the floor.
Also blowing cold air. But when I push the
button for the defrost the top blows hot air
while the bottom leg vent still blows cold air.
Weird. Any thoughts?

I would remove the blower motor and vacuum out the leaves. I would check to see if the cables attached to the HVAC flaps are working.

Thank you F_O_R I was thinking the cables were the culprit but obviously need a vacuum:)
