I have a VW Jetta, 2008, 5 cylinder. Recently when I get to 3000rpm, it slows down. When I shift up or down it will speed up, but what is causing it to slow down? I can floor it in fifth and once it hits 3000 I stand still. Thanks!

Check your exhaust / cat converter. if any of it is crushed or blocked the engine can't rev as there is no where for the spent gases to go. A cheap vacuum gauge on an active port will rise with a slow throttle increase to 3K rpm then when throttle is held steady it will slowly drop off.
