1994 corolla sluggish in drive when accelerating don't won't to go

Well, it's either a 1.6L 4A FE or 1.8L 7A FE and the unfortunate thing is it is not OBDII compliant to get fault codes. The first thing I think of is fuel filter, and that is inside the gas tank, a mesh sock attached to fuel pump pick-up. Quite a hassle. But you can try testing the fuel pressure in the fuel rail, on either engine, it should be 38psi +/-5. Or the fuel pump it's self, how many miles on spark plugs... air filter... catalytic converter plugged... throttle body dirty... Dude I could go on and on with stuff like that. But let's clarify one thing- does it rev up and sluggish not want to go or engine not rev up...and once you do get going does it run well then?
