This is not the case with my '08 hybrid. I just got the battery changed today, and it started fine. After going to five stores without a problem, it wouldn't start AGAIN. I get lights, everything, but the engine won't start. This is my only car, and I can't afford to be without it. It takes 4- 5 trys before it starts.

It is the ignition switch. It wears out and will have to be replaced. I ordered one and watched the video on how to replace it. It is not that hard to do if you have basic mechanical skills. The part costs @ 85.00 from Parts Train and you have it in your hand within 2 days. You can also watch the video on how to repair the one in your car if you have the tools. You have to grind @ 1/4" of metal away in order for the keys to turn further allowing it to start the car.

I watched a video on how to fix the problem. Have to remove the switch and grind the tab inside to allow the key to turn farther to the right. Fixed the problem

My 2009 Ford Escape will not crank every time when turning on key. All lights radio etc work. It may start or it may not. We have spent over 1000 at ford dealer replacing the switch changing box under hood everything has been changed and still has same issue. The only thing left to change is the key. Does anyone know if there is any recalls on these vehicles?

my 2010 Ford Escape (not hybrid) only has 84.5K miles on it. It will not start, It has been doing this for a couple weeks and would start after like 5 minutes of pushing in key hard and turning, Now won't start at all. I had it towed to a mechanic. he says he doesn't think it is starter. But he and another guy are only ones working at garage and he is wondering how he will get it in garage since it won't start. grrr

I am having the same problem with my 2008 Mariner (hybrid) have to jam the key in. With new ignition switch, now nothing happens at all, however I am not sure what grinding the key means. Did you find the solution? Sorry, no answer- still looking for a solution.

My Ford escape 2006 doesn't start unless I unlock it with key fob. If I unlock it with key only then it will turn lights on etc. But not engine.

I have a 2008 Ford Escape that sat for 3 months without driving, I put a trickle charger on it for a week, tried starting, nothing. I purchased a new battery, still nothing. When I saying nothing, just like all the above, lights, radio, chimes, everything works, but no engagement of engine or battery... Anyone have any ideas? ekimv65 at gmail

Last fall my 2009 hybrid Escape began having the issue. If the temperature was below 40 degrees it wouldn't start. I took it to a mechanic specializing in this type of vehicle and because he wasn't sure he just used the computer to tell him the issue. He had my car for a month before returning it with replaced instrument cluster. The temperatures were at that point warmer. This fall the same thing happens except 55 degrees. What I found at some point is if I warm the inside of the vehicle up the car will start, but sometimes it takes several turns of the key. Everything on the dash lights up but until the radio cuts out when I turn the key I know it won't start. I'm considering taking it to a Ford dealer this time assuming they will have seen this before.

Check the fuel pump drive module. Located on the driver side rear wheel fender area. Aluminum housing corrodes through and kills the unit. About 60 bucks. How the Ford engineers picked this area for this device is a mystery to me.

I am having this same problem with my daughters 2008 Ford Escape; replaced the starter and ignition switch. It is back with the mechanic because last night when she got off work, the car would not start. I am so frustrated as this has been a good little car for her to get to and from work and to an from school and I can't afford to replace the car.

Had same problem with my 2005 FEH and changed ignition switch with no luck. Mechanic then tells me that the HV battery is depleted and didn't offer a fix other than to junk the vehicle. After reading another blog (https://www.greenhybrid.com/forums/f26/09-feh-sit-about-year-cant-jump-star- 31104/index3.html), I see that I can use the jump button MULTIPLE times (once until the light goes out after 5-6 mins and then repeat) to RECHARGE the HV with the 12V. It was 7-8 times for me and it worked like a charm. Hope this works for you.

Have a 2008 Ford Escape XLT, non-hybrid V6. I have replaced the starter, the ignition switch and the entire ignition module where you have to take off the steering and saw a quarter inch bolt off. The car worked fine the last two weeks after finally replacing the ignition module. But, I went to start the car today and the problem has returned. The battery and alternator are good as well. Does anyone have anymore suggestions? About to just go trade this in for a new car lol

I have the same issues as everyone is stating plus other stuff... 2008 ford escape xlt v6 non hybrid. when putting the key in and turning nothing happens lights show up sometimes starts sometimes not. Then there is my other issue - when it is running all the lights show up makes a beep sound the odometer then reads --------- which can't be good and the gas and heat gauges like go down. but the car is still running. Oh did I mention that the ac does not work either. cleaning out the car will try to get it sold or trade it in if possible no more fords for me
