Volume control on radio doesn't work - on loud and can't turn down

Asked by mannvickl May 13, 2014 at 11:05 AM about the Ford Explorer

Question type: General

The volume control knob on my radio doesn't turn the volume down on my radio.  It won't adjust at all!  What is the problem.  Do you think I can use my steering wheel volume control instead?

If using the steering wheel control is an option why haven't you tried it??

Don't even consider trying to have it repaired. The bench time to fix it will cost more than a replacement. Knockoffs are made which look exactly like the factory.

I sprayed WD-40 on mine fixed it . still working fine. just pull straight off the volume control knob spray for a second and don't turn on radio for a day. all should be good, or if it has steering wheel control it may be needing a cleaning also.

volume control works part time on my 1998 Expedition Eddie Bauer vehicle. Low volume most of the time and when I turn it to loud nothing seems to change. Sometimes it works but most of the time it does not.

I have that issue with the knob aswell but sometimes yhe steering wheel control doesn't work. I've found myself having to use the stereo mute button then gently increasing the volume to where it's comfortable

What is wrong with the radio if it's home but you cannot hear any sounds and you're turning it up and down
