do you have a 5 terminal relay? and are they labeled 30,87a,87,85 and 86 or something different?

The contacts on the GM four pin relay are in an X pattern. One leg of the X is the relay power and ground. The other leg is the pair of contacts that close when the relay is energized. With that pattern, you can't install it wrong. The relays are common and are used in several places so if you suspect that a relay is bad, swap it with another one. You can also pry the top off and watch the operation and force the contacts closed if need be.
