what would the reason be for my neon popping out of 5th gear?

It seems like ur pressure plate isn't holding....when was the last time u had ur clutch checked.

sounds like fith gear is going out on you,it may need a rebuild.

i had the same problem it was one of my shift cables were out of adjustment pretty easy fix

my neon does the same thing but only started right after it was drive thro sand ( not by me ) 8)

There is a piece in the transmission that hold the gear you selected in place (i forget what it is called) there is one for every gear. The one for 5th is most likely gone. 1 thing most people dont know about is if you rest your hand on the shifter while not changing gears it wears out this part and the synchros, 5th is a common gear to wear like this casue when in this gear you are typically cruiseing on the highway and it's comfortable to rest your hand there.

I have the same problem but mine started after a rebuild of the engine. I could of swore the transmission had gear oil but the part store and the dodge deal both said recommended ATF and now when driving the 5th gear will work for about 30 mins then it pops out seems like it happens when the transmission get warms it pops out could it be the ATF?
