4L60E transmission won't shift out of first gear

I have a 97 Chevy Silverado with the 4L60E
transmission transmission went out I've put in
another 4L60E but it will not shift out of first gear
what could be my problem

On the 4L60E transmission is it doesn't upshift out of first, and the speedometer reads zero at all times: it very well could be a VSS failure. Which means the rear of transmission needs to be repaired and to access the VSS the transmission has to be removed from the vehicle.
