pulled out lighter with wire
Asked by wrenchjumper Apr 22, 2014 at 03:26 AM about the 2004 Honda CR-V EX AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I accidentally pulled out lighter with wire. Wire had electrical connector, same using to
connect broken wire, and is about 2 feet long. Looked under stearing wheel dashboard,
but couldn't find any loose wire. Where to look at or where exactly wire from a lighter goes
to? The car is Honda CR-V 2004

like a needle in a haystack, its easy to lose ,just connect to a 12 volt hot line should do

As I pulled wire with connector (same as attached) I worry about open ended wire hanging loose. Where is 12 volt hot line?
the lighter is fused by itself ,if shorted it will be protected, a 12 volt line can be found by test light of wires at fuse box and cut insulation back and splice in and tape joint to insulate or bring your lighter wire to fuse box and place a cleaned end in a 10 or more amp fuse leg and press the fuse in holder. holding the wire in tight

O.K. I see your point regarding fuse for existing lighter wire. I can simply remove a fuse to deactivate it. Should I attach both clean ends from lighter wire to a 10-15 amp fuse, or just one and connect another one somewhere else?
the black one is ground , to any steel surface, clean and tech screw for ground

See attached photo. it is only blue and brown. No black. Brown goes to the centre of a lighter socket, blue to a side. So which one should be attached to the ground and which to the fuse? I also removed a fuse which was for lighter (slot 18). It wasn't so easy. Looked on a label and found a few empty slots (5, 11, 21), but when I tried to place removed fuse in every one of them it was very loose. Does it really matter which side of the fuse/slot to use when attaching power wire?

See the full picture of what I pulled out. Looked everywhere under steering wheel dashboard, but couldn't find any loose wire.
