Do i need to drop the valve body to change the 3-4 shift solinoid?

1993 Ford Ranger 4.0l v6 2wd auto (AL4D)
I have never opened up a tranny i have always
just changed them out however the part for the
trans is $65.99 if anyone has done this before
let me know is it an easy job is it a head ache or
should i just spend the $200 on a used one
please keep in mind that this truck of mine has
197,274 miles on it
