I have a 03 ford expedition and what can cause it to make a gringing noise for the back axle only when I make a right or left turn while I accelerate

Might have already worn out the bearings in the diff. Have a shop give you an estimate to fix it and then decide if you can do it yourself or need to pay for it to be fixed.
Most likely a wheel bearing although I've seen a few differential carrier bearings do this too.

I know this is a couple of months old ...But, it is prob the 3rd member(or pumpkin) needing clutch packs if it has a bad grinding or sounds like you are running over the roadside bumpers on the interstate...I have had to replace a couple of these. Could possibly be the cv joints as it is an IRS vehicle...
