New transmission vs new clutch

Asked by maryanne Jun 14, 2020 at 12:31 PM about the 2003 Audi A4 1.8T quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Audi A4 1.8 Turbo AWD 5 speed manuel
transmission with about 245,000 miles on it. Car still
running strong. I know in the near future i will need to get
a new transmission. But someone had recently told me
that all i need to do is replace the clutch on a manuel
transmission. I want to know how much of that is true.

Not in all cases. If it's close to the end of the clutch's lifespan, it's a good idea to go ahead and replace it while the transmission's out.

Have a mechanic evaluate it to see if the transmission or clutch is the problem.
