Maybe A compressor problem

Question type: General

When driving stop and go usually in town traffic, Arizona at around 100 degrees,  our 2006 town car wants to heat up.  When this occurs I shut down the air conditioner right away and almost immediately the water temp goes back down.  Could this be a an A/C compressor problem?

Good call tennisshoes. Question: is the engine overheating or is the needle just going up? The conditions you describe are quite a heat-load on any engine. If it's running a little warmer than it used to - that's to be expected but if it's over-heating, get it looked at. Use the Gold Ford recommended Antifreeze - no Green or Orange - 50/50 or up to 70/30 mixture - while I'm thinking of it: Check the Pressure cap and water pump output too. Serpentine belts these days tend to stretch instead of losing chunks out of them - check your belt tensioner to see if it's near it's limit. Fan failures are common and about $260 + labor.
