2000 Grand Am symptoms of dead battery but not.

My wife came home from shopping
then went to start the car. The car
behaved like it Had a dead battery, no
lights, no horn, no crank, no start. I
attempted to jump the battery (
noticed no spark from the last jumper
connection ! ) no change.
Disconnected negative battery cable
and jumped directly to ground wire. No
change other than dash lites appeared
brighter and starter solenoid clicked a
few times. I manipulated both battery
cables to the starter with no success.
This car has the 2.4L DOHC engine.
Any ideas?

Sounds as if the battery is completely dead, I would try to put a deep charge on the battery or purchase a new battery. Check all your connections and have the alternator load tested at Auto Zone for free
If your battery checks out and alternator is properly charging, then it may be your starter.
Thanks for your help guys. Turns out the issue was the ground cable from the battery. Most likely inside the molded rubber boot covering the side mount terminal. Clue #1 the car behaved as though it had a completely dead battery. Clue #2 there was no spark when making the last jumper cable connection. Clue #3 the car started up when I connected the ground clamp of the jumper cable directly to the Grand Am's chassis.
Now the dash brake light won't go out. I guess that's tomorrow's project.
Check the fluid level and make sure it is to the full line on the reservoir.
