Engines cranks but wont fire up and stay running

Check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail. If that's good, check the fuel injectors with a noid light to see if they're getting the trigger signal. If they're not, check the crankshaft position sensor. They tend to be troublesome on these vehicles. Since it will run on the starting fluid, it's definitely a fuel problem! Has your service engine soon light been on? If so, pull the trouble codes. That will also point us in the right direction! Hope that helps! Jim

With gm bypass ignition, during cranking, the ignition module controls spark. Anytime you think a fuel issue, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, 48--55 psi, so if in the middle, should be fine. You say the fuel pump engages, that might be only the initial prime, you will have that regardless of rpm signal. At the ignition module, purple wire with white tracer carries rpm signal tp computer. W./o that signal, the computer won't ground the fuel injectors. Could be ignition module or crank sensor, as you said. good luck

0 fuel or pressure at the fuel rail pressure port, I unplugged fuel filter and turned key forward to engage pump and gas only trickled out of the line to the filter. I then pulled the fuel pump out, sock was completely clogged and coated, no way for any fuel to get through sock. its been about 7 years since replacement was put in. So im guessing that may not be very healthy. My next option was to clean the sock and see if thats the issue then replace pump

Sounds like you found the problem! I'd suggest dropping the tank and cleaning it as well as replacing the fuel pump assembly. Hope that helps! Jim
