2003 Forester runs rough after a rain

Bought this 2003 Forester 5 yrs
ago. Have had no problems until
last Fall. After a rain it would run
rough & back-fire a couple of
times then run fine. If driven for
30+ minutes, it would be okay all
day. But 2 nights ago we had a
bad rain with flooding. Started fine
, took me about all day, avoiding
deep water. Last night, it has
struggled to start & doesn't turn
over. What could it be?

I would replace the plug wires and seal the boots with dielectric grease to keep moisture out. Do you still have the plastic splash shield below the engine?

Thanks! Seems my garage guy feels that is the problem! I don't know about the splash guard but will ask!

Look under the car. If the splash guard is gone you will see the engine.
