how to reset the auto door entry on 05 prius key fob. manually you can lock/unlock, but it will not recognize the fob when accessing the vehicle. new battery and inserted into dash slot did not fix.

I got it figured out. put key fob into dash slot and depress the small "key" button for a few seconds. after a beep remove key fob and try locks....ours is doing fine now...no more little fingers playing in car while cleaning....hope this helps..Have A Blessed Day! sorry Toyota dealerships...

What do you mean small key button? All I have is One lock button with the lock open and another button with the lock closed. Also have the red horn button. Can you be more specific? I would like to try what ever you are talking about. Thanks!

Having this problem with my key fob but I don't get a beep when I push the key button. But, weirdly, when I do drive awhile with the key in the slot it seems to recharge the key so it works opening the door. But then it fades out again and doesn't work. Thoughts, anyone?

Ok y'all I was having this issue forever and I finally figured it out (for me anyway). Three things were happening: 1. My fob was needing a new battery every few months, 2. It was not unlocking and locking my car, 3. It was not starting my car unless it was in the key fob slot. The first issue solved was the key button under the steering wheel. That allowed my car to be started without the fob in the slot. The second issue was that the panic button was wedged down on my key fob and I only now noticed as I was, in desperation, pushing all the buttons, and the panic button had no give. I unwedged it and voila, working. Hope this helps someone cause I was pulling my hair out!! Good luck everyone!

Always keep a good battery in your key fob about every 6 months! Generally speaking all batteries recharge themselves a tiny bit, and this uses very little power to work, so it should always work unless you're trying to get in the car several times in the same time frame, with a low battery. Also some cellphones will block the signal of your key fob no matter how new the battery in in your key fob, so you also won't be able to enter the vehicle in this case, until you move the phone away from the key fob. My cellphone is a Sony brand.

I changed My key fob batteries after it died and I did every single programming video on YouTube and still couldn’t figure it out but after reading GURU872M8’s comment, i saw that my Panic button was also wedged under it slot and right as I undid it I locked my car and my remote work perfectly fine!

Hi, I have 2009 Prius. Ordered two remote key case from Amazon for $12 since old ones broken (replace in different time). In the second key replacement carefully moved all parts to new case but forgot one piece (a small metal chunk inside the case) which helps to start the car when inserted in key Slot. 1) My remote lock & unlock works fine Issues: 1) Since I forgot to place that small metal piece CAR won't start even if I insert into key-slot 2) The remote start/stop (without inserting key) is also stopped working for both remotes now NOTE: 1) for the first remote replacement and reprogramming helped to start/stop without insert. 2) in between the CAR battery is replaced and that might have reset the first key (start/stop) and not working without inserting. I need help on 1) where I can order/buy a remote part (small metal thing without which car won't start after inserting in the key slot) 2) How to reprogram the keys to that remote start/stop should work (without inserting). Any links to buy the key parts much appreciated.

I can’t even use my manual key to open the door! My panic button also seems to be gone. My spare key has the panic button intact but it won’t open the door either. Any suggestions? I’m really befuddled by manual key not working. 05 Prius.

Yes, with panic/alarm button stuck I could open the doors but not start the car. It would also set off the alarm all the time. The fob was so old, 2005, that I had to take apart the fob and rip out the red panic button to keep it from pressing on the little circuit board button inside. To do this you remove the little key ring if you have one. Slide the slider back on top of the fob. Remove the key and the back cover which slides out. Then using a tiny Philips screw drive remove all four screws over the battery compartment. Then you can pry the two halves of the fob cover off to expose the little circuit board. You'll see the rubber button on the front cover. Just rip out the red plastic part that is pushing down on the button on the circuit board. My fob worked perfectly after that. And yes new battery while you at it.

Hey guys. It is 2024, and I still have the same issue on my 2006 Prius. The dealership asks $189-389 to diagnose the problem. I had to pay $260 for a new key fob, so it is not a keyfob issue or that key button. I cannot use my keyfob for locking and unlocking my car, have to take out the manual key every time, and keyless entry is not working too. Do you guys know why is it happening?
