overdrive

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm having a strange problem with overdrive (automatic).  If it is hot and dry, overdrive (high gear) will work 90% of the time.  If it is cold and/or wet overdrive will only work 10% of the time.  When it does work, there is no kicking or grinding, so I don't think its the transmission itself.  So I am left thinking it is an electronic issue as it has an ECT (electronic controlled transmission).  Having the ECT set 'Power On' or 'Power Off' does not make any difference.  The OD button works and is not the issue.  Any ideas?

You are not going to believe this but I have seen this before. The ECT ( Trans Control System ) keeps track of the engine and if it sees that the engine is NOT up to temperature the OVERDRIVE will not work. Replace the thermostat and gasket and see if that solves your problem. Good Luck

That sounds marvelous (and marvelously cheaper than I thought it would be)!!!!!! I'll try this. It sounds completely logical so I'm sure it will work. Thanks a million!
