I have a 2002 Toyota celica gts has a tapping noise in the engine

If the sound is up in the top end then the valves most likely need adjusting. If it's in the bottom end then engine damage has occurred and will eventually stop running.

also check the oil level and are you using the correct weight? Any lights lit up on the instrument panel?
