While rotating the tires of our van, a stud was snapped on the left rear wheel. The mechanic said we had to wait for the part to come in, but the car was safe to drive. As soon as the van started moving, a light on the dash went on indicating there was lug nut missing. The dealer has replaced it, but the dash light (indicating there is a problem with the wheel) remains on. The manual for the vehicle was stolen so I have no resource to find out what to do. Will the dash light eventually go off?

Typically it may take time for the sensors to reset themselves, as much as 150-200 miles of driving or 10-15 keystarts. If it does not reset, talk to the dealership to make sure more is not wrong.

There is no sensor that can indicate that a wheel stud is broken. You most likely have a tire air pressure monitor causing the indicator to be illuminated. Also check the So are tire pressure because some spare tires also contain a pressure sensor like the other four tires.

Why would you think there’s actually a sensor to indicate a lug nut is missing? Cars are smart nowadays but that’s brilliance that doesn’t exist yet. Most likely you had the light on before but you didn’t start paying attention until they worked in your car.
