Alternator differences

So im helping my friend chang out his alternator in
an 04 chevy classic with the 2.2l ecotec engine but
we had the wrong alternator for the car took it back
and traded it for a different alternator for that
engine and it still doesnt fit he had his engine
replaced awhile back and we dont know what it
came out of is there a difference in the engine
based on what it came out of thank you

Yeah, the year--make--model that the engine came from would be helpful? w/o that I don't know what to tell you? In the old days, some generators, you could clock it. Take out through bolts on generator, Turn the front half vs the rear half to see if you could get mounting holes to match up. I don't know if that would apply on your vehicle? Just a thought. good luck
