my 1996 4.3 s-10 cranks but stops almost immediately as if locking up

at first it started smoking and burning rich then died. irelpaced oxygen sensor changed fuel smelling oil then tried it that's when it started cranking then stopping almost instantly as if locked up. can someone tell me the bad news

Check your oil and see if it looks white to greyish in color. If so, you might have a cracked block. I hope not! Let us know, OK?

hello thanks for your response. I changed the oil. it was black but very diluted with gas. it cranks but hits hard at approx. the same spot like a valve dropped or something just not sure how to check

This may be your answer. Sounds like a hydraulic lock due to gas leaking from injectors. Pull all the plus and see if it will turn over. If not tear down is possibly needed.
