What belt was replaced? Check the transmission oil level. If it is good, next check and make sure the linkage is connected or correct. If you don't know how to do it, and you have a friend that understands transmissions, ask him/her to check the linkage. If not have it taken to a reputable garage. Did this just happen after you had the "belt" replaced? Go back to who did the work and ask them what was done and why it affected the transmission. They may of disconnected something and forgot to re-attach it.

The transmission needs to be diagnosed. It could be a torque converter, or an electronic problem. If your trans fluid was that low to render the car immovable, you'd probably smell it.

Byron, it's been 10 months now. What did you find out was the issue? It'll help us in trying to help others that may experience the same like issue. We understand your car is 14 years old, but we don't know the mileage or how it has been driven. Some are driven to and from church meetings and to the grocery store, others are driven like they stole it. Hopefully it was just low on fluid and that fixed it for now.

I have an 08 impala flex fuel and today on my way to work my car was in drive but barely moving the rpm was going pass 3 and still barely movement. My mph was even going up but the car was not moving. Trans fluid full. Just recently had my Water pump replaced. I brought the car around tax time so I don’t know the previous owner n what conditions they left the car in. I actually thought I lucked up but guess not.! If anyone have any pointers please let me know

My 06 impala just did the same thing. Was running perfect, stopped at a stop sign then when I went to go, nothing. Engine sounds strong but rpms just increase when gas is pushed. My friend put the car in neutral to push me outta the road but it drove in neutral. You push the gas in drive and it does nothing but when u start it in park it makes jumps like it's in gear then nothing and it drives slowly in neutral. I don't know if it's related but the day before I hit the worst pothole going about 45 mph. Scared the crap outta me and made me bite a chunk outta my tongue. Drove it with no problems for most of the following day then the above happened. Any thoughts?
