2005 Dodge Ram 1500 not turning over

Asked by Guru9YNN48 Feb 05, 2021 at 03:28 PM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have an '05 1500 Ram Hemi, V8 5.7, and at first all the electrical pieces
were turning on (radio, lights, dash, etc) but there was no RPM and wasn't
turning over. All I could do was shift the gear and roll either way. After a few
minutes, even the battery quit, everything except the vents stopped working,
although it was only blowing cold air at that point.
Some ideas have been thrown around as to what it could be: the crankshaft
position sensor has had to be replaced before (it had the same symptoms
with that), and a few ideas that it may be the fuel pump have been
mentioned. I know I need to replace the battery regardless, but I know that
wouldn't cause everything that's going on.

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good? To me, turning over, is starter motor action, not starting. if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs--use a gage and check proper fuel pressure--check fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes? Engine cranking, all systems get battery voltage, so state of charge and battery connections are very important. Now, if starter motor won't crank the engine, I'd have to check starter motor wiring circuits. Just my opinion. good luck
