Engine Light / Engine Cutting out?

Asked by Scott_97_Jetta Nov 27, 2009 at 08:09 PM about the 1997 Volkswagen Jetta GL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My daughter has a 97 jetta and in the last few weeks the engine light has started to come on intermittently; and the engine has started to die as you attempt to accelerate.  It isn't all of time so before I take it into the shop, any input on what the issue may be so I am better informed prior to seeking the dealership's diagnosis?
