The 1998 VW Jetta never had a 4.0L available. The Passat did. Are you asking if you can put a 4.0 in your Jetta? The 2005 redesign of the Passat (B6) changed the engine's mounting configuration to transverse. The W8 is too large physically to be mounted in such a way, the 4.0 is two 2.0L married in a 'W' configuration and there is physically not enough space in engine bay. Not to mention it is longitudal
