That is oil contamination, and if it's in the coolant, then you may very well have a blown head gasket (also one of the reason you are overheating). A compression test on each cylinder will help you determine if you are losing compression due to a head gasket, as will a product called "Block Tester" (that looks for hydrocarbons, a byproduct of combustion, in the coolant). Your engine needs immediate servicing, if you put off this problem you'll just end up blowing the motor.
ty ken f hey i can drive it and there's no noise comming from the engine a.k.a. lifters valves any idea what it will cost to do the head gasket ? it's got 237.000 k'l'm's on it . Is it worth doing or scrap it ? i mean it's a nice car and has been one of the best iv'e own besides my 77 mustang with a 351 cleveland 4 barrel cam . but anyways your a great help and i tyvm for your time and patients.
i was camping and the road was off road logging road i took it real easy but there was a ton of dust up and down the logging road thank the lord i made it home i'm in b.c. canada
I'd get a compression test done, if you have one or more cylinders showing greater than 15% difference with the other cylinders, is a sure bet you have a blown head gasket. You can check around for prices on doing a head gasket locally, but they're not exactly cheap (Bar's Leaks does make a head gasket fix but it isn't a true repair.) Is it worth repairing? That's up to you, if the frame and body are in great shape, and you can get the work done cheaply with some warranty (or DIY) then sure, I'm a big believer in keeping older cars on the road but if it doesn't make financial sense then scrap it out or sell it. Newer cars are more fuel efficient anyhow so that plays a factor in deciding to keep or get rid of a car.
tyvm yeah i'm just getting prices on it now as to getting it fixed here's what it looks like.
Looks nice, I'd get the motor repaired and keep it. Be sure when you get quotes the shop understands you are not certain it is in fact a bad head gasket, get a proper diagnosis of the problem so you don't pay for a repair that wasn't needed. You'll also want to check the oil too, if oil got into the coolant, coolant may have gotten into the oil, and that will deprive the motor of lubrication. Good luck.
Hi Ken f i did a compresstion test and all came back in the 80's so that was fine but i got this hose that when i drive it the hose get ocerly hot and exspands then pisses out water but in the same time its getting mixed with oil sludge. I'll try to find out what the hose is called for ya
ok, or post a pic of the hose. It may be the PCV hose and valve. Second guess would be the EGR.
hey ken yeah i got the water pump done thermastat timing belt pvc valve that hose as shown compression was good on all 4 . so not needing a head gasket plus a few other things i'll list them when i get my car back hopefully today or tomorrow i'll post pics as well incase others need help and i'd like to thank you again for your kind help tyvm.
the car runs fine just when i rev it over 3000 grand it get's realy hot could that be because my radiator is blocket and should i change it
The only way to know for sure is to do a flow test on the radiator. Check the fans come on when they should too.
The fan turns on yes the clutch fan also is working buts seems a little sluggish ie: not moving a lot of air ? When I put garden hose I top hose of rad there is a small trickle stream coming out the bottom hose Seem to be blockage
The electric fan turns on when hot and when you turn on the ac.......
I'm thinking most of the oil sludge came from the faulty oil cooler...And If the rad is full of oil sludge / blockage would cause it to overheat...From the lack of coolant flow...?
