2001 VW Passat won't crank
Asked by Mrs_Fixit Oct 17, 2016 at 12:40 PM about the 2001 Volkswagen Passat GLS V6
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
While driving down the road my Passat shut off
while turning a corner and won't complete a turn
over. Has file and fire. I tried jumping it, new
battery, tested the alternator and starter working
on getting a code reader to check codes but I've
check everything else. There were no knocks, no
clicks, everything was running fine and she just
died mid turn. She's a standard and I tried push
starting even. Nothing. At a loss usually only work
domestic not import any help greatly appreciated.
Note she didn't over heat.

You have to look for a pinched wire or short. Based on the "it shut down when I turned a corner", would suggest something changed.. ran out of gas, something came loose.. disconnected.. or something got crimped and shorted out or cut. I think you will just have to do a good visual inspection of any of the necessary wires.. or have someone diagnose it. Good luck
Also to add. When the car shut off the key fob stopped working on the car itself the battery died apparently. I've since changed them. The doors would not unlock with the fob or manually. The only access I had was via trunk. I've since been able to get into her again but now the fob working again. Still won't start.
Holy heck .. I am so sorry. It becomes impossible if the symptoms change randomly.. Good luck.. its past my pay grade. :(
I think I may have to give up on her. The guys at the VW dealer dont even know. I had her towed up there and her codes checked nothing's coming back they did a full diagnostic and nothing.
Do you still have your passat. Were you able to diagnose the problem .
