Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My car, a 95 Camaro, that in the last month when I engaged the engine, it started rolling backwards until I put on the foot brake. If I disengage the engine, it doesn't roll. I hadn't used the hand brake, ever I think. I got it in 1997. Though I drove it on faith for about 6 miles and parked, I pulled the hand brake up and it wouldn't go down. My son had something like WD4 and I saturated the area and It finally released,

you should ALWAYS use your parking brake...if hot the transmission mounts get torn apart and the engine mounts too~ take a look to see what damage has been done by NOT usin' the parking brake....you may have already WON....a trip to the autoparts store for new transmission mounts~ not to mention the torture of the parking pawl...this thing is supposed to support the car's static weight...not go crunchin' on in while movin'~

sounds like a torn parking pawl inside the transmission...check the fluid for metal particles...and color....and FULL HOT when the car is running~

this thing has rear wheel drums and a "star" wheel adjuster...also a special arm for that parking brake....these things get all choked with rust....recommend NEW brake shoes and full service including new wheel cylinders if necessary and possibly a new parking brake cable if that one is too far gone~

might be worth the investment to have fresh equipment down there~ https://www.google.com/#q=1995+Chevrolet+Camaro+parking+brake+cable
